Why Arete?
Arete has two meanings:
- Arete (ah-reh-‘tay) is a philosophical term with deep meaning first used by Greeks. It roughly means moral virtue, and refers to an innate excellence in all things, and the striving toward one’s full potential or purpose as a way of life.
- An arête ( pronounced by American climbers as uh-RET) is a narrow ridge of rock that separates two valleys. It is typically formed when two glaciers erode parallel U-shaped valleys. It is the narrow point of connection between two valleys. Arêtes are popular with hikers because they offer sweeping views of the valleys below.
Both of these definitions resonate with me. I always strive for excellence and my goal is to provide my clients with tools and resources to reach their full potential. And, an arête is a connector, a way to get from one place to another. From an arête, you can see the full scope, the big picture of where you are and where you want to go.
Thus, Arete for Impact!
